The US International Trade Commission invalidated a trio of patents covering polycrystalline diamond products used to make drill bits and bearings, lifting a cloud over foreign imports of products used in oil and gas drilling.

The ITC built upon a March ruling that found a host of importers hadn’t violated ChampionX’s US Synthetic patents because they were ineligible for protection, affirming on Monday that the patents covered abstract ideas. Sintered Saw Blade
