When I took Freiburger to his first ever pull, we were in Northern Maine. He was there with the Turks and they were running the Hot Rod Special Camaro at the Loring Timing Association LSR meet. When we got done for the night we were informed of a fair that was happening and that there would be pulling that evening. He had never seen it and much to my delight, we were there to see the big rigs hook onto the sled and give it a ride. If I was forced to pick a favorite category in pulling, the semis would likely be it, just because of the size, the power level, and the very clear illustration of torque they display when hiking the left front and carrying it down course. This video is just rip after rip down the course. It rules. No wasted time, and all action. You’ll see modern and classic rigs, all packing massive diesel engines just giving the Earth all they have to give in the hopes of making a full pull and competing at the pull off at the end of the night.
Balance is so important in pulling. Even with vehicles that are the better part the size of the average American home, you need to make sure that the weight transfer to the rear axles is managed, you need to be able to steer, and most of all, you really need to get all you can early on in the hook to get the load moving and carry it as far as possible off the end.
